Snapshots on Digital Ocean
Not sure why I never played with this sooner. If you take a snapshot of a droplet on Digital Ocean, it is a point-in-time backup that can be used to create new droplets. What is cool, and how i’m utilizing it, is to save money by destroying the source droplet. Snapshots only cost ~6 cents to keep for a month, vs. ~$28 for a decently powered machine… so if your workflow can stand a few minutes to re-spin the droplet up from the snapshot and point your DNS to the new IP address, it becomes a very useful cost saving measure.
