The Niven Jazz Collection

Half a decade ago I came across a small blog post on ElectronicBeats.net that pointed me to an interesting collection on Archive.org. Per the post:

David W. Niven was a high school teacher from New Jersey. But his legacy will be the 650 cassette tapes of early jazz that he recorded throughout his lifetime.

The entire collection is more than 650 Gigabytes of jazz that you can access for free thanks to the wonderful people at Archive.org. By the collector’s own estimation, there is over 10,000 hours worth of music collected on these tapes, which were then digitized by archivist Kevin J. Powers.

Thank you so much to David W. Niven, Kevin J. Powers, and everyone else who had a hand in making this archive available.
