2038 Problem

I stumbled across a good write up of the 2038 problem on CodeReliant.io – unfortunately no author was listed on the article, nor on the About page – this is something I’ve thought about since I was in high school, but the problem felt so far away at that time (“30 years? Computers will probably be past 64 bit integers by that point!”). How naive I was.

I think the biggest challenge is going to be getting legacy system owners to pony up the money to make the necessary changes to their infrastructure to resolve this problem. It’s not so much a factor at the consumer level – just about every OS I know of is already 64-bit exclusive for desktop use, and your smart phone is a 64-bit system.

Not in any way related to 2048 which is still highly addicting years later.
